Mile High Sports Now On KDCO 1550 AM. 94.1 FM Will Be Moving To 104.7 FM With More Power. UPDATE: Staying on 94.1 FM
KDCO 1550 AM (licensed to Golden, CO) is on the air and has started to broadcast the Mile High Sports format that is on 94.1 FM Denver/96.9 FM Boulder.
Vic Michael's Cedar Cove Broadcasting owns 1550 AM and 94.1 FM. Chuck Lontine owns 96.9 FM. So I assume they are all now being run by Mile High Sports under an LMA.
Cedar Cove applied last week to upgrade 94.1 FM from 24 watts to 240 watts (and move back to 104.7 FM), with KDCO as the originating station, instead of KQKS 107.5 FM HD-2. The boost in power should cover the Denver metro much better.
Interesting that it will be just a couple of clicks up from Sports KKFN 104.3 FM... so Mile High Sports will be moving on the FM dial in Denver again. Now to 104.7 FM, once the FCC approves it.
I corrected this post to reflect that Chuck Lontine, not Cedar Cove owns 96.9 FM in Boulder.
Lontine's web site is at: http://marconiventures.blogspot.com/.
He is a true radio legend (and works hard to put on local formats) and his site provides an interesting read on his projects over the last few years.
I just checked on this application, and they submitted an amended application on October 6th - to stay on 94.1 FM, but with antenna changes and a power upgrade to 250 watts.
"K231BQ seeks to modify its current directional antenna system, lower its current height above ground by 2 meters, change its primary input station as a “fill-in” for KDCO(AM) Golden, CO, facility ID 161314, and increase its Effective Radiated Power from 24 watts to 250 watts. No other changes are being proposed."
