KMAX flips from alternative to "Maximum Rock"
Maximum Rock Debuts In Fort Collins
by Lance Venta, Radio Insight
Townsquare Media flipped Alternative "94.3 The X" KMAX-FM Wellington/Fort Collins CO to Rock "KMAX 94.3" on Friday.
Positioning as "Northern Colorado's Maximum Rock", the station is using an all out-of-market lineup starting with Compass Media Networks' "Free Beer and Hot Wings" in mornings. The show was previously heard on the station from 2012 to 2015 when it previously featured a Rock format as "94.3 Loudwire." KBAZ Missoula MT Brand Manager/midday host Klinton 'KC' Kloppel will host middays. WWBN Flint MI based Maggie Meadows will follow in afternoons. Compass Media Networks' Loudwire Nights hosted by Chuck Armstrong will follow in evenings.
The new format positions KMAX-FM directly against iHeartMedia's 107.9 KBPI Fort Collins, which targets both the local area as well as adjoining Denver market. KBPI was fifth in the Spring 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings with a 2.5 share, while KMAX-FM had just a 1.0. The Alternative format is still heard on iHeart's duo of "Radio 94.9" K235BT/KSME-HD2 and Denver market "Channel 93.3" KTCL.

Yeah all syndicated and they went back wards in time.. This is just another way of being lazy on putting together a lame format. They want to go head to head with KBPI? another dumb move to say the least..
This won't last to long... Since they couldn't hire any local people and since ROB left for KIMN? This was townsquare dumb idea.. just like what they did to KARS 102.9.
