Condolences to the family and friends of radio, label and music writing pro ART PHILLIPS BOXMAN, who lost his battle against a rare form of cancer early SUNDAY (6/19) morning.

SONGS OF THE ISLANDS MUSIC Owner and longtime friend JON SCOTT told ALL ACCESS, "His tremendous pain is over. Anybody in the music business knew that ART was a passionate lover of music and always there when you needed him. He was a good man! Prayers go out to his loving wife JILL QUINN. I've been up in CAMBRIA with him and JILL a lot. He was in hospice care. During those days I started reading him music stories and he loved them. He died from cancer of the appendix - only 600-1000 people a year are diagnosed with it,"

PHILLIPS' career ran over four decades. He got his start at Rock KILO/COLORADO SPRINGS. From there he went to the ALBUM NETWORK, which led to BILLBOARD's AIRPLAY MONITOR. He then had a five-year run as VP/Promotion at HOLLYWOOD RECORDS and the same title at RCA RECORDS for five years before he transitioned over to the WELK MUSIC GROUP, as VP/Promotion & Artist Development for 11 years. Lastly he ran ART PHILLIPS MUSIC MARKETING.
Information about services is pending.

He was a great and talented guy. I had the pleasure to meet him. He went from a cab driver in Colorado Springs, to putting KILO 94 on the air (was 93.9 FM back then). He was MD and afternoon drive at KILO from 1978 - 1982, if I remember correctly. The station back then was still rock, but Art played a lot of Alternative also when artists like Elvis Costello and Talking Heads appeared on the music scene. Back then KILO was #1 and it was common to get 15+ shares. The PD of KILO back then, Rich Hawk, stayed at KILO and passed away in 2013 (http://www.coloradomedia.net/forums/showthread.php?12008-Former-KILO-94-3-FM-Colorado-Springs-PD-Rich-Hawk-Dies).

Art once told me about how they had to rescue Bruce Springsteen from a Loaf and Jug in Woodland Park after his Jeep broke down. And take him up to Denver for a show.

Art also created and hosted a music video show on KOAA Channel 5 that came on Saturday nights after Saturday Night Live. "KILO's Radiovision" was innovative and predated MTV.

RIP Art.
