Max Media has dropped the Dance format at Denver rimshot “Hot 107.1” KDHT Bennett, CO.
In its place its “Amendment 64 Radio” better known as “Pot 107.1“, celebrating Colorado legalization of marijuana. The format is the brainchild of Promotions expert Paige Nienaber, who for Max Media was responsible for stunts such as Stripper Radio “101.5 The Pole” in Denver and Chinese Hits “Kung Pao 100.5” in Norfolk.
KDHT shifted from CHR to Dance in March, but has seen its ratings drop off after an early rise. It was down to a 0.6 share in the November monthly after being as high as 1.1 in September. Word is that there have been quite a few staffers let go from KDHT and sister Rhythmic Oldies “Jammin 101.5” KJHM today.

Now that COLORADO voters have signed off on something they probably forgot about by now, MAX BROADCAST GROUP Top 40/Mainstream KDHT (HOT 107.1)/DENVER has just flipped to ... something or other ... now don't tell me ... oh yeah, POT 107.1, "DENVER's Dope Hits." The new sound of POT 107.1 will include a blend of Hip-Hop, Classic Rock and Reggae, infused with topical discussions of the ever-changing legalization landscape in UTAH ........................ check that, COLORADO, right?
AMENDMENT 64 RADIO, DENVER’s only true cannabis rights and regulation-intensive radio station, began its terrestrial broadcast at 3p MT. The station will broadcast commercial-free from 3p TODAY (FRIDAY 11/30) through MONDAY (12/3) at 3p.
"This change is reflective of COLORADO’s exploding cannabis culture and the overwhelming passing of AMENDMENT 64 in this past election," Dir./Programming BRIAN DEGRASSE mumbled while opening a new bag of CHEETOS.
POT 107.1 will feature songs like: "Purple Haze," "Gin & Juice," "Kaya," "Day-n-Nite," I Got 5 On It," "How High," "Legalize it," "Mary Jane" and more! The flip debuted with the entirely appropriate ditty ... ..................................................
................................................
.................................................. .................................................. ... JOHN DENVER's "Rocky Mountain High."

Only in Denver: Behold Pot 107.1, first marijuana-themed (terrestrial) radio station

Cypress Hill might as well just move here at this point.
Okay, this next item seems almost too preposterous to be true. You ready? Brace yourself. It seems that Hot 107.1, the EDM-centric radio station on the right of your dial, is now, ahem, Pot 107.1. If this were April Fool's Day, we'd assume that this was a joke. Moreover, if the station was, say, to be flipping formats -- a rumor we heard in passing -- we wouldn't put it past the powers that be to do something gimmicky like this in the interim (anybody remember the Pole, all stripper radio -- yeah, this is the same company that did that). So who knows? This is Denver. Stranger shit has happened. If you'd have told us that weed would be legal, we would've given you a big old GTFO! But then, well, that happened.

From Pot1071.com:
My name is Jeff Norman and I am President and General Manager for Max Media/Denver... This is a very exciting time and we are both humbled and honored to be at the forefront of this new wave of music programming. So please welcome to Pot 107.1, the first of what will soon be a worldwide musical revolution. The fun, safe and legal music that is, Pot 107.1. Let the party begin!

So, yeah, this could all be a big joke. Or not. With Amendment 64 passing, this could be the best idea on the planet since, well, legalizing marijuana. What better way to capitalize? And, so while we thought an all EDM station was novel, given the current explosion, this is even more genius, particularly in Denver, where the only thing bigger than dance music is, uh, pot, duh! Anyhow, whatever the case, if you tune in now, you'll hear all the stoner anthems your grubby little ears can take, everything from "I've Got Five On It" and various cuts from the Chronic (natch) to Marley and Sublime.

You've really gotta hand it to the folks at Max Media. They're not afraid to take chances (see Indie 101.5, now Jammin' 101.5, and the seemingly dearly departed Hot 107.1) -- but, then again, the same could be said about the Denver radio market itself, which pioneered the Jack format and is an early adapter of 24-7 Comedy radio. Anyhow, enjoy this while it lasts, stoners -- and keep pinching yourselves. (Anybody else feel like we're living in some alternate universe?) And don't forget to pour one out for Hot 107.1, and light one up for Pot 107.1.
