It's not a sports-world secret that the Rocky Mountain Showdown has become a Rocky Mountain slowdown. And that includes television coverage.

Colorado and Colorado State will battle for the 20th time on national or local television Friday night at Sports Authority Field at Mile High amid declining fan interest and speculation that the Denver-based rivalry games may soon become campus attractions at the universities.

And Friday night's TV coverage won't build up the slowdown.

Fox Sports 1, the cable arm of Fox Sports that premiered nationally 13 months ago, will air the game on Comcast and Direc TV.

But if you're a Dish Network customer, you might not see the game. As of Sunday, Dish was involved in a financial dispute with Fox Sports 1 regarding carriage rights.

And Fox Sports 1 viewership in the Denver, Boulder and Fort Collins areas is much lower than regular cable operations such as Root Sports and Altitude.

Fox Sports 1 is on the part of a premium — not regular — Comcast cable package on Channel 408, where it's grouped with other sports channels.

Some Comcast viewers may get the channel on basic cable if they have special sports packages.

DirecTV also offers special sports packages as part of its regular satellite delivery.

Still, many fans will go to their favorite bar.

Hey! There's still radio.

Friday night's game can be heard on the CU and CSU networks — KOA 850 AM and ESPN 105.5 FM, respectively.

There's more bad cable news for CU football fans. DirecTV and the Pac-12 Network are still on the financial battlefield, thus eliminating coverage of conference games for another season.
