The local Emmy Awards were announced Saturday night, covering a five state region in the Heartland Chapter.

Once again, a multimedia outfit once known as a newspaper figured prominently among the winners: The Denver Post won Public/Current/Community Affairs honors for “The Fire Line: Wildfire in Colorado” and an award for Public/Current/Community Affairs – Feature/Segment for “In Sickness and In Health: Cecil and Carl.” The Post also won the Arts/Entertainment category for “Colorado Variety Performers” by producers Eric Lutzens and Mahala Gaylord and photographer Cyrus McCrimmon.
Denver’s KUSA won both Station Excellence and News Excellence honors. KUSA also picked up awards for topical documentary, “After Aurora” by Chris Vanderveen and Journalistic Enterprise for “Lila’s Daddy” by Vanderveen.
In the investigative journalism categories, KMGH had an impressive showing: John Ferrugia’s “Comfort for the Court: Judicial Extravagance” won best report, Theresa Marchetta’s “Tracking Danger: Colorado’s Failing Parole System” won best series.
KDVR’s Jeremy Hubbard won best news anchor, KCNC’s Justin McHeffey best weather anchor, and KMGH’s Lionel Bienvenu best sports anchor.
KDVR was honored for its Evening Newscast, KMGH picked up honors for its morning newscast.
Five broadcasters were inducted into the Heartland Chapter’s Silver Circle, for 25 years of outstanding contribution to the television industry. This year’s inductees: John Goheen, for years with KMGH as a videojournalist; Anne Trujillo, KMGH anchor; Greg Moody, formerly Critic-at-Large for KCNC; Mike LeClaire, photographer at KMGH, and Ken Miller, executive producer with ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain.
