The FCC has been busy all winter going through the new LowPower FM applications with amazing speed. They have award Construction Permits for nearly 1000 new LPFM licenses around the country. In Colorado, 19 groups have received CP’s, mostly in smaller communities. But the FCC has also awarded the first few CP’s in metro Denver:

93.7 - Castle Rock – St. Francis Catholic Educ. Association
93.9 - Castle Rock - Castle Rock – Calvary Chapel
96.1 – Denver – The Colorado Independent
97.7 – Louisville – City of Louisville
97.7 – Golden – Teshuvah International Ministries

These stations will be 100 watts or less. They have 18 months to build and sign on or seek an 18 month extension. If history is a guide, not every group that wins a CP actually succeeds in getting the money and expertise necessary to launch their station.

Then here are the competitive applicant battles which have yet to be sorted out by the FCC or the stations themselves:

Aurora/Commerce City: 93.9 – Youth on Record; Christ’s Church Apostolic; Bread of Life Church; Ethiopian Community TV

Boulder/Louisville: 95.1 – NICE Corp; City of Louisville

Westminster: 97.9 – Regis University; Denver Chapter Buffalo Soldiers 8th & 10th (Horse).

Central Denver: 104.7 – Denver Hackerspace; Open Media Foundation; Academia Internacional De Arte.
