Denver Mayor Michael Hancock will pay off his bet and give CNN’s Jake Tapper a day off: Beyond the humiliation, one result of the Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl loss will be the fulfillment of a wager between Hancock and Tapper. Hancock must anchor Tapper’s “The Lead” due to Denver’s defeat, on a date yet to be determined.
From Tapper: “The truth is that the most exciting part of the Super Bowl last night was the fact that I had a bet with the Mayor. And I’m sorry to say the lopsided result was such that I probably should get an all-expenses paid family ski weekend to your gorgeous state. We don’t have anything scheduled yet—Mayor Hancock does have a city to run — but I am looking forward to finalizing the details. Stay tuned.”
The bet, made on the air on Jan. 24, stipulated that, if the Broncos won, Tapper would be mayor for a day and if they lost, Hancock would anchor Tapper’s show for a day.
“We’re still working with the Mayor’s staffers to finalize the details,” said a CNN spokeswoman. It’s still undecided whether Hancock will anchor the hour from Denver or be on-set in Washington, D.C.
