Mundo FOX, a new Spanish-language broadcast network scheduled to launch nationally Aug. 13, will appear on KQCK-Channel 33 (http://www.kqck33.com/) in the Denver market. (KQDK Channel 39 digital). Programming includes a daily newscast out of Los Angeles, the popular serial “El Capo,” and the game show “Minuto Para Ganar” (“Minute to Win It”).
As the country’s No. 15 Hispanic TV market, Denver is a key target for the Los Angeles-based startup. Mundo Fox is a joint venture between Fox International Channels and the RCN Television Group (RCN), the top broadcaster in Colombia. So far, the network has signed affiliates in 48 markets, covering 75% of the U.S. Hispanic population. Many affiliates are full powered TV stations, unlike the Denver station which is low power. RCN has a deep library of programming, and previously provided shows for TeleFutura. What will make Mundo Fox different, industry observers note, is that the new network is aimed at young, bilingual viewers.
The goal is audacious: to do in Spanish for the young, bilingual audience in 2012 what Fox did to English broadcasting 26 years ago.
MundoFOX acknowledges the importance of the Hispanic market and “wants to challenge and revolutionize the status quo by giving media buyers and advertisers more innovative options,†Tom Maney, Senior Vice President of Advertising Sales, Fox Hispanic Media, said in a statement. “Smart marketers believe there is a new Latino mindset. They are asking for more choices, and they will be given just that from MundoFOX.â€
