Launched on August 31 (https://formatchangearchive.com/tj-98-7-new-york-debuts/) on the Emmis owned signal as a filler “Pop-Up Radio Station” as a partnership between United Stations (https://www.unitedstations.com) and consultant Mike McVay to promote the syndicated “The TJ Show (https://thetjshow.com)” hosted by TJ Taormina, the brand was always meant to be temporary until Emmis could find a longterm operator and preferably a buyer for the station.
With the TJ Show airing in mornings and afternoons, the station relied on services provided by other vendors and services which received promotional over-the-air messages including automation service Radio.cloud (https://www.radio.cloud) and imaging voice Steve Kamer (https://www.stevekamer.com). McVay programmed the music with his daughter, former “Good Day Show with Doug Stephan & Jai Kershner? co-host Jai Kershner hosting middays and serving as secondary imaging voice. She has also previously co-hosted mornings at WVVR Clarksville TN and the syndicated “Dawson McAllister Live”.
The station is promoting the end of the TJ pop-up brand for Friday at 6:00pm and for listeners to “stay tuned to hear what’s next”. We reported on recent domain registrations for the brand in our 1/5 Domain Insight report (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/netgnomes/291051/domain-insight-1-5-iheart-has-a-beat-on-the-move-potential-98-7-new-york-activity/).
