https://i0.wp.com/radioinsight.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/01/hot106morning.jpg?resize=200%2C200&ssl=1The cuts at Cumulus Media continue this week as ‘Mike D’ DaSilva and Alexus Lee have departed mornings at Cumulus Media Hip Hop “Hot 106 (https://www.hot1063.com)” WWKX Woonsocket/Providence RI.
DaSilva has spent his entire twelve year career at WWKX and has anchored mornings since 2016 first with Bekha Berger and since January with Alexus Lee. He also serves as play-by-play voice for Rhode Island FC games on WWKX and 790 WPRV. Lee is a local R&B singer/songwriter who had been making guest appearances for a few months prior to taking the co-host job.
Both shared farewell statements on social media. DaSilva said in-part, “Well, there?s no easy way to say this? today was my last day at Hot 106. I?m still trying to process it. There?s no ill will or anger, just business. In any business, nothing is guaranteed. Right now, I mostly feel sadness. I grew up here, not just in my career but personally too. So much of my life happened while working at Hot 106. Things I dreamed of and cherished, things I shared with our audience along the way. It feels like leaving your childhood home. Even if you get a new place, there?s something special about the one you leave behind.”
Lee’s statement included, “I wish there was a more elegant way to say this but there isn?t so here we go? after 14 beautiful months my time at Hot 106 has come to an end. I never expected to work in radio, and definitely never expected to love it as much as I did but life brought me there. These last 14 months have been some of the most challenging and rewarding of my life and I am fundamentally different as a human for having had them.”
Sources indicate the changes may not be done there. Could a format change be imminent at the station?
