Hip Hop “Hot 105.5” WCZQ Monticello has moved from the Decatur cluster recently purchased as part of the $2 million acquisition (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/264368/neuhoff-media-sells-danville-intends-to-sell-remainder-of-radio-holdings/) of Neuhoff Media’s Danville and Decatur clusters and is now being operated out of Champaign. With the change, Classic Hits 107.9 WKIO (https://www.news-gazette.com/wkio/) Arcola has moved to the frequency, but has also flipped to Classic Rock. The two frequencies will temporarily simulcast.
The 105.5 signal, which Neuhoff operated as part of its Decatur cluster, puts better coverage into the western side of Champaign than any part of Decatur. It also marks the fourth frequency in its history for the WKIO brand, which started on 103.9 in 1978 prior to that station moving to 92.5 through 2005, then being resurrected in 2013 (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/netgnomes/81272/urock-champaign-urbana-to-rock-no-more/) on 107.9.
As noted in our 5/17 Domain Insight (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/netgnomes/269113/domain-insight-5-17-format-shuffle-coming-in-champaign-is-espn-returning-to-central-pa/), the WKIO calls were moved to 105.5 earlier this month with 107.9 taking on new WDWS-FM call letters. It is expected that WDWS-FM will simulcast News/Talk 1400 WDWS (https://www.news-gazette.com/wdws/)/93.9 W230CW Champaign helping the station?s coverage south of the city.
With the flip of WCWQ, midday host ‘DJ Tat’ moves to nights on sister CHR “Y103 (https://nowdecatur.com/y103-home/)” WSOY-FM Decatur.
