KVUT launched in September 2020 following the University’s $120,000 purchase (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/189123/ut-tyler-to-launch-new-npr-affiliate-with-kvut-purchase/) of the station. KVUT rimshot the Tyler portion of the Tyler/Longview market from the south and was one of three public stations in the market along with 90.1 KERA-FM (https://www.kera.org) Dallas’ translator on 100.1 K261CW Tyler and Louisiana State University Shreveport’s fellow rimshot ?Red River Radio (https://www.redriverradio.org)? 100.7 KTYK Overton. KVUT programmed Public News/Talk programming by day and Jazz at night.
UT Tyler College of Arts and Sciences Dean Neil Gray stated, “This move aligns with our core mission and allows us to reinvest in our academic programming, offering more educational opportunities to students, particularly in our Department of Communication. I want to thank the KVUT team, donors and listeners for their support.” Gray then added, “Reinvesting in our students is crucial for fostering the next generation of communicators, journalists and media professionals. By reallocating resources, we can enhance our curriculum, provide cutting-edge technology and create hands-on learning experiences that prepare our students for the rapidly evolving media landscape.”
