https://radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2023/11/963weii-200x200.jpgiHeartMedia is preparing to drop the simulcast of Audacy Sports 93.7 WEEI-FM (https://www.audacy.com/weei) Lawrence/Boston from 96.3 WEII Hyannis/Cape Cod MA.
WEII has simulcast WEEI since 2009 when it flipped from CHR “96.3 The Rose” WRZE under former owner Qantum Communications. In a job posting (https://iheartmedia.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/External_iHM/jobs/details/In-Market-Show-Co-Host-Producer-Programming-Assistant_Req32720-3) on the iHeartMedia website for a Sports Talk Co-Host/Producer/Programming Assistant, the company justifies the position stating, “The revenue for this $40,000 salaried position will be funded by the savings that the market is acquiring from the expiring Audacy/WEEI & Red Sox contracts. The Audacy/WEEI contract was $300,000 annually. The Red Sox contract was $65,000 annually.”
The posting states the station will continue to carry Sports programming following the end of the WEEI simulcast as duties for the job include co-hosting and producing a local sports talk show, anchoring hourly local/regional sports updates, and creating revenue opportunities that will expand local and regional coverage, including Cape Cod high school sports content, sponsorable features and podcasts.
WEEI is also heard on Audacy owned stations in Springfield and Worcester MA and Providence RI, Great Eastern Radio owned stations in Claremont and Keene NH and White River Junction VT, and Atlantic Coast Radio owned stations in Portland ME.
