Perez has been with Nevada Public Radio since 2013 serving in multiple positions including Account Executive, Corporate Support Manager, Director of Revenue, and since last November Chief Operating Officer. He previously served as Bilingual Membership Representative for Nielsen and was an Account Executive for Univision Las Vegas.
Vogelzang joined Nevada Public Radio as President/CEO in March 2022 after serving as Interim General Manager of the Asheville NC based Blue Ridge Public Radio. He previously served as President/CEO of Maine Public Broadcasting from 2012 until 2021, General Manager of 90.9 WHYY-FM Philadelphia from 1984-1993, President/CEO of Vermont Public Radio from 1993-2009, and Station Manager of WBFO Buffalo from 2009-2011. He has also served on the Board of Directors of National Public Radio and was Interim Executive Director of the NPR Foundation in 2008-09.
The Las Vegas based organization operates Public News/Talk 88.9 KNPR (https://knpr.org/news-889-knpr) Las Vegas, which is heard on a network of simulcasters across much of the state as well as Lake Havasu City AZ and Ridgecrest CA and Classical 89.7 KCNV (https://knpr.org/classical-897-kcnv) Las Vegas.
Don Hamrick, Chairman, Board of Directors, Nevada Public Radio, announces the retirement of Mark Vogelzang as CEO, effective October 6, 2023, and the appointment of Favian Perez to Interim CEO. Perez, who has been with Nevada Public Radio for ten years, assumes this new responsibility after serving as the organization?s chief operating officer since 2022.
Vogelzang, who enjoyed a nearly 40-year career in broadcast management at stations across
the country and as a national public broadcasting nonprofit leader, joined Nevada Public Radio in early 2022 after being lured from his longtime public broadcasting position in Maine just as he was preparing to retire. According to Hamrick, it was an opportunity Vogelzang couldn?t refuse as a capstone to his impressive public media career.
?We?re deeply appreciative of Mark?s stewardship of Nevada Public Radio and progress during his tenure. From journalism to major gifts, from increased news reporting to partnerships with other organizations and an expanded Board of Directors, these and other efforts championed by Mark will continue to help us grow,? said Hamrick.
During his tenure with Nevada Public Radio, Perez served as Senior Director of Revenue,
overseeing underwriting, membership, sales and development for the organization prior to
stepping into the role of Chief Operating Officer last year. In his career, Perez also worked with The Nielsen Company and Univision Communications, both locally and nationally.
?I am deeply humbled by the opportunity to lead our team of media professionals at Nevada
Public Radio,? said Perez. ?The tremendous foundational work completed by Mark and our
Board of Directors will act as a springboard in this transition. Our member, listener, and
community constituents look to us to deliver the highest-quality news, journalism, culture and arts programming. I am excited to continue this work and look forward to realizing Nevada Public Radio?s highest potential.?
?The Board is committed to the successful transition of leadership at Nevada Public Radio now and in the future,? said Hamrick.
?Our NPR news station is changing and adapting as public radio journalism is growing new and different audience patterns. We have exciting plans to meet our listeners wherever they are, while increasing engagement with genuinely distinctive approaches in the months ahead. Having the region?s premier city publication, Desert Companion, gives us a tremendous additional tool. This is a unique institution that serves all citizens of this region, and we highly value the mission and support it fully.?
