https://radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2019/08/wpoi-200x200.pngAfter becoming one of the biggest success stories of the last CHR boom period in the early 2010s, the end appears near for Cox Media Group’s “Hot 101.5 (https://www.hot1015tampabay.com)” WPOI St. Petersburg FL.
As we first reported in our August 15 Domain Insight (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/netgnomes/257421/domain-insight-8-15-heat-to-be-turned-off-hot-101-5-tampa/), Cox registered a number of domains for the station pointing towards a format change at the station. Today, the company applied to change the call letters of the station to WTBV to take effect on Monday, September 11.
Launching in July 2011 (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/netgnomes/52408/101-5-the-point-tampa-to-flip/) at the peak of the early 2010s CHR boom, “Hot 101.5” would enter a bitter format battle with iHeartMedia’s 93.3 WFLZ (https://933flz.iheart.com). Since the early 2022 departures (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/220042/miguel-holly-join-hits-96-1-charlotte/) of Miguel and Holly to iHeart’s “Hits 96.1 (https://hits961.iheart.com)” WHQC Charlotte and May 2022 departure (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/224936/will-calder-returns-to-power-96-as-director-of-programming-operations/) of Program Director Will Calder, WPOI has dropped in the ratings as it registered a 2.2 share (https://radioinsight.com/ratings/tampa-st-petersburg/) in the July 2023 Nielsen Audio survey, behind WFLZ’s 3.3 share.
