The new 14kW/48m (https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&appid=25076ff38947156b01894ff53ffb0373&fa cid=762627) signal replaces the station’s former LPFM signal on 101.5, which had been its home since 2015. The station was founded by former NPR VP/Technology Mike Starling, who was later joined by former PBS Kids Managing Director and Politico VP/Marketing Judy Diaz as General Manager.
As part of the move to the full-powered signal, WHCP has added programming from NPR including Morning Edition, All Things Considered, This American Life, Big Picture Science, and Folk Alley. Starling anchors a local News program, Mid-Shore Midday in the 12pm hour. The station notes on its website, “We are created for and by people on the Mid-Shore and are run primarily by volunteers who live here, are proud of who we are and are eager to share it. More than 80% of our content is locally-produced including almost every music genre, community journalism and original local talk shows.”
WHCP covers the Mid-Shore area on Maryland’s Eastern Shore midway between the Baltimore/Washington and Salisbury/Ocean City markets including Cambridge and Easton.
