Quirk has been with NHPR since 2012 and worked in Development until 2020 as well as serving as fill-in host for all of the station’s local programming. Quirk began her career at KUSP Santa Cruz CA as All Things Considered host and Director of Business & Foundation Support and then worked in corporate support for Rhode Island Public Radio.
NHPR?s new Program Director is a familiar voice, Emily Quirk. The promotion makes Emily the leader of live broadcast platforms and live events programming for the statewide public broadcast.
In her new role, she will lead NHPR?s efforts to use radio, the livestream and events to maximize the impact of the organization?s journalism and to grow and diversify NHPR audiences on those platforms.
Emily has been with NHPR for 11 years, and her passion for our local broadcast audience is apparent in everything she’s accomplished as production manager.
For the past six months, Emily filled a significant portion of NHPR?s Program Director responsibilities along with those of her post as production manager. During that time, she served as the as the lead project manager and executive producer for NHPR’s first ever By Degrees Climate Summit, supervised NHPR?s programming department, executed special coverage plans, and worked with the podcast teams to bring their journalism to the radio audience.
As production manager, she’s voiced and crafted the “sound of the station”, coordinated countless on-air fundraisers, produced segments for Give Back NH , Something Wild, New Hampshire Calling, Long Story Short, and developed our very own NHPR Music vertical with features such as Live from Studio D and long-loved favorites like Holidays By Request. You can find the many music specials she’s pulled together over the years at NHPR.org/MUSIC.
Emily has also served as fill-in host for basically every LIVE program NHPR offers over the last 11 years? from Morning Edition, to All Things Considered, to The Folk Show.
Before joining the NHPR staff in 2012, she served as All Things Considered host and Director of Business & Foundation Support for KUSP, Central Coast Public Radio in Santa Cruz, CA. While there, she hosted numerous soul and roots music shows.
?Emily is dynamic and energetic, a can-do person who makes good things happen,? said Jim Schachter, NHPR?s president and chief executive officer.”
