https://radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2023/06/987thespot-200x200.jpgThe next piece of the transfer of the KLUV intellectual property to Educational Media Foundation has been filed with the FCC as the groups have engaged in a call letter transfer.
Audacy’s newly rebranded “98.7 The Spot (https://www.audacy.com/987thespot)” will become KSPF as of June 26, while EMF will park the KLUV call letters on their unbuilt CP 89.7 KLHU Huron SD. The only remaining piece to be filed will be the transfer of Audacy’s trademark rights to KLUV to EMF. The IP transfer was part of EMF’s purchase (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/250830/audacy-sells-wlfp-memphis-wtss-buffalo-to-educational-media-foundation/) of 94.1 WLFP (now WMLE) Memphis TN and 102.5 WTSS (now WBKV) Buffalo NY that closed last week.
https://radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2023/06/kklq-200x74.pngDallas/Fort Worth was one of three regions where Educational Media Foundation’s trademark rights to “K-Love” were invalid due to pre-existing usage rights. Univision continues to hold the rights to the trademark in the counties of the Los Angeles, Oxnard/Ventura, and Riverside/San Bernardino CA markets due to their “107.5 K-Love (https://www.univision.com/radio/los-angeles-klve-fm)” KLVE Los Angeles, but has granted EMF permission to brand their 100.3 KKLQ Los Angeles on-air as “K-Love For Christian Music” as long as they use a logo for marketing that does not include the name as shown in the attached image. Univision also holds the trademark rights in 32 counties in southeast Texas, some of which already have EMF stations operating with the “K-Love” brand such as 103.9 KVLX Franklin/College Station.
98.7 KLUV relaunched (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/253074/kluv-dallas-becomes-the-spot-as-ip-goes-to-emf/) as “The Spot” on June 14 ahead of the closing of the sale of the IP to EMF.
