The station had retained its Westerly office since then-Entercom acquired the station in 2004. GoLocalProv.com reports (https://www.golocalprov.com/sports/weei-sports-radio-closing-ri-office) that employees were notified this week about the closure. It is unknown how many people were effected or if they will now just work remotely.
Despite having a full Class B signal covering the entire state of Rhode Island, WVEI-FM has mostly trailed Beasley Media’s “98.5 The Sports Hub (https://985thesportshub.com)” WBZ-FM Boston in the Providence market (https://radioinsight.com/ratings/providence/) with a 2.5 share in the February 2023 Nielsen Audio ratings to WBZ-FM’s 3.8 share.
