WYOS had featured a Sports format since 2006, originally carrying ESPN Radio programming until switching to CBS Sports when that network launched in 2013. The station’s website redirects (https://wnbf.com/wnbf-welcomes-wyos-listeners/) to sister News/Talk 1290 WNBF/92.1 W221EJ with a message stating, “We?re glad that you?re here and we’re happy to tell you that here is where you will now be able to keep up with not only all of the local, regional, and national sports that you love, but also community news and the issues that are important to you.”
Townsquare Binghamton GM Mary Beth Walsh told WIVT-TV (https://www.binghamtonhomepage.com/news/top-stories/jim-rome-fans-lament-wyos-1360-am-shut-down/) that the station was not supported by local advertising. We’re told that the station’s transmitter was also faulty and also played a part in the signal going silent, although Townsquare has yet to file an STA with the FCC.
The sign-off leaves iHeartMedia’s “Fox Sports 1430 (https://foxsports1430.iheart.com)” WENE as the only Sports station in Binghamton. WENE had a 1.0 share in the Spring 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings, while WYOS had a 0.5 share.
