Former morning co-host Steve Barnes debuted in mornings today as the first part of the soon-to-be reconstituted “Morning X”. Barnes, who has mostly been focusing on acting and video production in recent years, joined the original WNNX at launch from nights at CHR “Q104” KBEQ Kansas City originally hosting afternoons. After departing the station in 2003, he spent two years in mornings at AAA “92.9 Dave-FM” WZGC Atlanta from 2004-2006 and later worked part-time at Alternative “Radio 105.7” WRDA.
The morning show will feature “Best of The Morning X” features from the original incarnation in the 6 and 9am hours. The eventual roll-out of the revamped morning show will be live from 7-9am with other voices returning “once contractually able to do so”.
Program Director Axel Lowe will host afternoons. Lowe worked at “99X” in multiple roles for its entire original run on 99.7 mostly hosting afternoons and later programmed two of its incarnations on translators. He remained from previously programming and co-hosting afternoons at the former “Rock 100.5” incarnation of WNNX.
Barnes and Lowe indicated that “so-much more is coming” in terms alluding to other original station voices and features from the past including the Sunday morning “Organic X” hosted by Matt Jones and the station’s “Big Day Out” concert.
