Scheld’s pending departure comes as Audacy has come to a new agreement with SAG-AFTRA allowing the company to combine the newsrooms and leadership of WCBS and sister 1010 WINS (https://www.audacy.com/1010wins). In a memo to staff he wrote, “Thanks to our new agreement with SAG-AFTRA, our company is about to roll out a forward looking and positive strategy to combine the resources and power of the two best radio news brands in America. It is a plan I have endorsed and frankly helped design. That new strategy is my opening to step away from a job I have loved for the past 19 years.”
Scheld has been with WCBS since 2003 as News Director and added the Brand Manager duties in 2008. He is on his second stint with the station after serving as a reporter from 1987 to 1994. He has also worked at Metro Networks, 710 WOR, and ABC News Radio during his career and was appointed (https://www.rtdna.org/article/tim_scheld_rtdna_chair_board_of_directors) as Chair of the Radio Television Digital News Association in September for a one year term.
