He began his career at the station in 2018 as a promotions assistant. He moved to afternoons on a part-time fill-in basis in November 2019 and was promoted to full-time (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/209855/zachary-tommy-burton-rises-to-wzpl-md-afternoon-host/) and Music Director in June 2021.
In a social media message announcing his departure Burton writes, “After a lot of consideration, I have made the decision to step down from music director, afternoon personality, and radio in general. Before I say anything else, I want to emphasize this was my decision and there are no hard feelings for WZPL. In fact, it was an honor to work at such an amazing station, and I plan on being in the crowd, supporting the incredible talent, at Birthday Bash. Consequently, the Two Faces For Radio podcast that my good friend, Jackson, and I worked so hard to build will also be ending.”
Recently appointed Program Director (https://radioinsight.com/headlines/221828/jimmy-steele-to-program-wzpl/) Jimmy Steele is currently filling the afternoon slot, but the station is beginning the search (https://cumulusmedia.jobs.net/en-US/job/music-director-on-air-talent/J3Q15Z6L77F1RR9Q84F) for a new MD to also fill an on-air role.
