WREG-TV reports (https://wreg.com/news/local/memphis-radio-dj-bobby-ojay-passes-away-at-68/) that when O’Jay would normally open the phone lines at 9:00am the station continued playing music. Midday host Bev Johnson confirmed to the television station that he passed away while at work, but no cause of death has been revealed.
O’Jay has been with WDIA since 1983 and also served as Program Director of the station. Prior to his arrival in Memphis, the 68 year-old O’Jay worked in Milwaukee, Montgomery AL, Houston, Dallas and Chicago.
