https://i0.wp.com/radioinsight.com/wp-content/images/2021/01/current.png?resize=200%2C200&ssl=1After just eight months as APD/MD and midday host at Nashville Public Radio AAA 91.1 WNXP (https://wnxp.org), Ayisha Jaffer is moving to Minnesota Public Radio’s “The Current (https://www.thecurrent.org)” 89.3 KCMP Minneapolis as evening host.
Jaffer will debut at KCMP the week of April 18. Prior to WNXP, Jaffer has also hosted afternoons at 89.9 WYMS (https://radiomilwaukee.org) Milwaukee and two stations in New Zealand. She has also worked at multiple artist and tour management companies including her own Greater Than Propaganda and as a Park Ranger.
The Current today announces the hire of Ayisha Jaffer as host. Jaffer can be heard on-air evenings beginning the week of April 18 on The Current’s broadcasts throughout the state of Minnesota as well as streaming online.
Jaffer joins The Current from WNXP Nashville, where she served as Midday Host and Assistant Program Director. Prior to WNXP, she was the Afternoon Drive host at WYMS Radio Milwaukee. She has also worked in music management in the U.S. and New Zealand with artists including Lorde, Cut Copy and Architecture in Helsinki. While living in New Zealand, she got her start in radio at stations 95BFM and Aotea FM.
“As a true Midwesterner, joining the team at The Current feels like coming home,” Jaffer said. “I am looking forward to being a voice on the air and a friend in your community.”
“Music is boundaryless and I believe in using it to drive connections and amplify voices. I am excited to get to know The Current’s listeners by sharing experiences, hearing yours and highlighting artists, creators, and dreamers alike. In this role, I hope to add to an already strong platform and pay it forward. Like Mr. Rogers says, let’s ‘make goodness attractive.’”
Outside of music, Ayisha has also worked as a park ranger in Alaska, and she enjoys working on wildlife conservation efforts, kayaking and playing music with her band Skux.
“We’re so excited to add Ayisha to the team at The Current,” said Jim McGuinn, program director at The Current. “She brings together tremendous energy, knowledge, and a passion for the music, a fascinating background both in radio and around artists—and even bears!—and a real desire to connect listeners to the music and each other. She can’t wait to discover more of the music (and navigable waters) of Minnesota and become part of our community. We’re psyched for her to join us at The Current.”
