Al Jazeera America announced 12 U.S. bureaus Tuesday, including a Denver bureau with Paul Beban as correspondent.
Beban was previously with ABC News. He has been a producer for Al Jazeera English. He won George Foster Peabody and Alfred I. duPont Awards as a member of the ABC News 9/11 coverage team. He spent several years at ABC News as a correspondent, producer and writer.
In addition to Denver, Al Jazeera America (http://america.aljazeera.com/) will open bureaus in Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. The network has been hiring a number of high profile journalists from American networks to fill out its ranks, most prominently Kate O’Brien from ABC News, installed as president.
Marcy McGinnes, Al Jazeera America senior vp of newsgathering, said in a statement: “We want our correspondents to report on a wide range of local, state and regional stories within the context of what it means for the rest of the country.”
