    From Radio Insight: Steve Hegwood?s Core Communicators has launched Hip Hop “Streetz 100.3” on Coastal Broadcasting of Larose Sports ?ESPN New Orleans? 100.3 KLRZ Larose/New Orleans LA. Launching with 5000 songs-in-a-row commercial-free, the move brings a competitor to iHeartMedia’s market leading “Q93” WQUE. The station is being operated via Time Brokerage Agreement with an option to purchase. The move marks Hegwood’s return to New Orleans nearly two decades after his On Top Communications Hip Hop “Hot 104.5” KNOU’s facilities were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 leading to the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2006. After its temporary facilities were destroyed by Hurricane Gustav in 2008, the station was sold twice and finally resumed full operations as 1980s Hits “Z104.5” KWMZ-FM in 2013. The Time Brokerage Agreement on file with the FCC notes that Core Radio Group has also entered into an Option Agreement to purchase the station with the $10,000 per-month LMA fees going towards the acquisition should it be exercised. The company operates multiple Hip Hop stations under the “Streetz” brand including in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and Norfolk. All of the stations also carry the Atlanta based “Yung Joc and The Streetz Morning Takeover” distributed by Superadio Networks. Local Sports programming had come to an end on KLRZ at the end of August when the 12-3pm “Sports Hangover with Gus Kattengell” ended after a fourteen year run between Cumulus Media’s “106.1 The Ticket” WMTI and then KLRZ. Kattengell also served as studio host for pre-game, halftime, and post-game coverage of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans for the past five year. The Pelicans announced their move from KLRZ to Audacy News/Talk 870 WWL New Orleans/105.3 WWL-FM Kenner for the upcoming season in June. KLRZ carries ESPN Radio national programming plus the morning and afternoon shows from Guaranty Media’s Baton Rouge based ?104.5 ESPN? WNXX Jackson/104.9 KNXX Donaldsonville LA. more

    From Radio Insight: Jordan Zeller’s Valley Broadcasting completed its move of 99.1 KQYZ Emerado ND into the Grand Forks ND market with a frequency change as ?Christmas 98.5? at 5pm on Wednesday, October 30. In addition to Christmas music, the station is currently airing North Dakota State University and Green Bay Packers football. The move comes as the station completed its upgrade from a 100 watt Class A on 99.1 to a 9kW/102m Class C3 with the company stating it now provides a strong signal to approximately 110,000 residents of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks, Crookston, the Grand Forks Air Force Base and the northern Red River Valley. Valley Broadcasting also operates KMSR Inc’s Full Service Classic Hits 105.5 KMAV-FM Sports/Oldies “99 KMSR” 1520 KMSR Northwood/98.9 K255DG Mayville. Fremont had joined WMGC-FM in October 2022. He began his career at Rhythmic CHR “102 Jamz” WJHM turned CHR ?101.9 Amp Radio? WQMP Orlando and also worked in that market at Cox CHR ?Power 95.3? WPYO as well as spending two stints at SummitMedia Hip Hop ?Hot 104.5? WKHT Knoxville TN first as night host from 2014 to 2018 before returning in November 2019 as MD/afternoon host and later rising to APD and then Program Director until moving to Detroit. Fremont shared, “They say all good things come to an end and that includes my time at the BOUNCE and in Detroit. My position with Beasley Media was eliminated and Thursday was my last day with the company. Over the last two years; we laughed, we cried, we celebrated and did a lot of really dope things. Shoutout to Shannon Renee for being a star, welcoming me (when the first day we met was my first day on the job) and helping make my job easy everyday by being such a pro!     From Radio Insight: New Century Broadcasting Classic Country 1340 KAND/104.9 K285HC Corsicana TX ceased operations on October 31. Owner Diane Raymond told the Corsicana Daily-Sun that she was heartbroken over the closure, which she cited revenue issues, personal hardships, and lack of local staff to run it. She also stated that plans have yet to be determined whether to resurrect the station in the future. KAND signed-on in 1937 and had been owned by Raymond’s New Century Broadcasting since 2010 after previous ownership intended to shut it down at the end of 2007. It carried Corsicana High School and Navarro College football, but had discontinued its local “Talk Time” show earlier this year. more

    From Radio Insight: After two days of stunting, Cumulus Media flipped the former Hip Hop “Hot 106” WWKX Woonsocket/Providence RI to Classic Rock “106.3 The Wolf” at midnight. The change brings a matching playlist, with “102.3 The Wolf” WMOS Stonington CT, which covers the southeastern corner of Connecticut and southwestern Rhode Island and had been run out of studios at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville CT. With a new logo to match WWKX, WMOS’s schedule continues to list Mike English in mornings and Westwood One’s Steve Gorman Rocks at night, however the remainder of the local airstaff including New London CT cluster News Director/midday host Jody Morris and Program Director/afternoon host Patrick Cole are no longer listed. The new format positions WWKX against iHeartMedia Rock 94.1 WHJY, which ranked fourth in the Providence market with a 7.4 share in the October Nielsen Audio ratings, but has led the market as recently as July.     From Radio Insight: Longtime South Florida personality ‘Jill Tracey’ Folmar passed away on Friday, November 1 at the age of 60. A native of Detroit, Tracey has been a staple of the Miami market since the early 1990s where she spent the majority of her career at the Cox Media Group cluster until being part of the company’s June layoffs. Tracey began her career in publicity and as a South Beach gossip columnist, which would bring her to R&B 1490 WMBM. She would spend eight months co-hosting mornings at WHQT in 1997-98 followed by a six year run at Hip Hop “99 Jamz” WEDR from 98-2004. After some time in Los Angeles where she appeared on the reality show “Starting Over” and worked at Jazz 88.1 KKJZ, she returned to Miami in 2006 running her own content company that produced audio and video features including “Love, Life and the 411″ for WHQT. That would lead to her return to the station in 2014 as News Director where she hosted the local inserts on the Tom Joyner and Rickey Smiley morning shows and hosted the Sunday night ?Hot Talk with Jill Tracey” community affairs show. A former president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) South Florida chapter, she was in a campaign for a seat on the Hollywood FL City Commission serving the city’s District 2. Cox Media Group released the following statement: It is with heavy hearts that we remember Jill Tracey, a remarkable voice in Miami radio and a beloved figure at HOT 105 FM. South Florida has lost a true radio icon and community voice. For years, Jill Tracey graced the airwaves with her dynamic personality, insightful commentary, and passion for serving her community. Known not only for her work as a radio host but also as a community leader. Jill?s impact extended far beyond the studio walls. Jill Tracey began her career as a South Beach columnist, crafting stories that spoke to the heart of Miami?s vibrant, diverse culture and community. Her love and passion for storytelling led her to HOT 105, where she became a staple on the station?s popular HOT Talk segment. In her role, Jill wasn?t just a host?she was a trusted friend, mentor, and voice for the voiceless. Beyond her radio presence, Jill was active in local community organizations, frequently attending charity events, fundraisers, and panel discussions that supported underrepresented voices and promoted positive change. She was also deeply involved in the Miami arts and media scene, where she was a mentor and friend to countless aspiring broadcasters and journalists.     From Radio Insight: The holiday season has begun en masse across the country with a larger number of stations than in the past using the start of November to make their seasonal music shift. While most of the stations are ones that make the move to Christmas music every year, there are a handful of newcomers this year. Pillar of Fire’s new Christian AC “Star 101.5” KSRC Denver joined sister “Star 93.3” WAKW Cincinnati in being one of the early converts. Northpine reports that 99.1 KQYZ Emerado ND completed its move into the Grand Forks ND market and frequency switch earlier this week to introduce itself to the market as “Christmas 98.5“. After not going all-Christmas in 2023, iHeartMedia’s “Movin 107.7” WMOV-FM Norfolk VA returned to holiday music this year. Two markets have already reached two all-Christmas stations as both Alpha Media Soft AC “102.3 The Rose” WXMA and SummitMedia AC “Mix 106.9” WVEZ have gone in Louisville, while both Mid-West Family AC “Magic 98” WMGN and Audacy Hot AC “Mix 105.1” WMHX made the move in Madison.     From Radio Insight: Audacy Hot AC “99.1 The Mix” WMYX Milwaukee News Director and afternoon host Tim Lethlean is departing the station following his show today. Lethlean previously worked at WMYX as a weekend/fill-in host from 2004 to 2007 before spending six years at News/Talk 620 WTMJ as a news anchor and fill-in host. He would return to WMYX in 2013 as News Director, while spending time in nights, middays, and since 2020 afternoons.
