From Radio Insight: After less than six months in mornings at iHeartMedia Classic Rock 100.7 WZLX Boston, The Rich Shertenlieb Show has exited the station as part of today’s cuts. Shertenlieb debuted on WZLX in May following his exit from the “Toucher & Rich Show” at Beasley Media Group’s ?98.5 The Sports Hub? WBZ-FM in November 2023. He and Fred Toucher had anchored mornings at the station since its flip to Sports in 2009 after previously hosting afternoons and mornings at Rock 104.1 WBCN. He also Alternative ?99X? WNNX Atlanta and was a producer on the Kidd Kraddick Morning Show. Shertenlieb released the following statement. Hey guys hey- After five months, The Rich Shertenlieb Show will no longer air on WZLX. To say that I’m disappointed is an understatement. When we launched the show at the end of May, the plan was simple. We would take the months of Summer to build chemistry with the new cast and by Fall and football season, we would be close to sounding what our vision of the show would be. However, just over two months into the show, management decided to alter the format. They wanted music, I did not. However despite my disagreement about the decision, I agreed to move forward and music was added. After starting from scratch, watching the show fanbase grow and the interaction with the fans increase as they became part of our radio family is one my proudest accomplishments in all my years of broadcasting. I’ve never been part of that much growth, ever. But the thing that I am the most proud of is the team that I helped put together for the show. This was THE team. If I could work with all of them the rest of my career, I would die happy. I love all of these guys. And through the last several months and my differences in vision with management, these guys had my back the entire way. All of them. Michael Hurley fought with me to create a great show tooth and nail every step of the way. There is no one smarter, more loyal, or a better friend to me than Hurley has been over the past five months. For someone who had never done full time radio before, he understood it better than anyone else. Ted Johnson has become one of the elite talents in sports broadcasting, and I couldn’t be more proud to call him a friend. Ted knows what it’s like to win, and always had my back the entire way. Emerson Lotzia is like that guy from The Town. “Who’s car we gonna take?”. This guy worked his ass off every day to make the show sound great, and through everything the last several months was an absolute rock. You’re not gonna find a better guy than Kenny Young-helped me with the transition, and is a pro’s pro. A master of all trades, and a great friend through it all. Jojo always started my morning off with a laugh and fist bump, and was always the first person to send me show ideas. Gonna miss those amazing golden pipes. Thank you to Heart for the opportunity. Just because we didn’t have the same vision doesn’t mean I don’t thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me a chance to assemble the team I’ve always wanted to work with. I LOVED this show. I loved our listeners. And I already miss you. -Rich more

From Radio Insight: Cuts are also ongoing today at Cumulus Media Indianapolis where among the exits is Kevin Freeman after 34 years in mornings at Country 95.5 WFMS. Freeman joined the station in 1990 where he was part of the show led by Jim Denny until Denny’s retirement at the end of last year. He had most recently been teamed with Matt Malone, who moved from afternoons to succeed Denny in January, and Deb Honeycutt, who has been with the morning show since 2000. Freeman also hosted overnights on Westwood One’s Classic Country network. more

From Radio Insight: In what may be its biggest round of layoffs since January 2020, massive cuts are underway today at iHeartMedia. The cuts include significant names across all levels of the company as it begins to implement a new operating structure following recent corporate restructurings. iHeart has been moving towards more regionalized operations at the market management level, which we’re told are also affecting promotions and sales teams. Most day-to-day programming of stations are moving to the national programming teams. We have already heard of many significant names affected by the cuts, but will only be publishing those who have gone public with their exits: Cleveland Bill Squire departs as co-host of the “Alan Cox Show” on Hot Talk/Rock 100.7 WMMS. A stand-up comedian, Squire has been with the station since 2013. Des Moines Ross Peterson exits as morning co-host at Sports 1460 KXNO/106.3 KXNO-FM after 20 years at the station. Tampa Jay Recher and Zac Blobner are out as hosts of “Jay & Z” from 12-3pm on Sports 1250/95.3 WDAE. Recher has been with the station since 2014 and was also Assistant Program Director at the station. Blobner joined the station in 2017 as a producer after three years at 930 WFXJ Jacksonville. The duo had hosted the early afternoon show since 2021. Washington DC Paul Jaxon exits as morning host at Classic Rock “Big 100” WBIG-FM and midday host at “Alt 104.5” WRFF Philadelphia. Jaxon joined WBIG-FM in September 2023 after 18 years in afternoons at WMMR Philadelphia from 2004-2022. He has also hosted mornings at WFNX Boston, KBPI Denver, and KURR Salt Lake City as well as nights at WHJY Providence in his career. This story is being continuously updated. more

From Radio Insight: Steve Hegwood?s Core Communicators has launched Hip Hop “Streetz 100.3” on Coastal Broadcasting of Larose Sports ?ESPN New Orleans? 100.3 KLRZ Larose/New Orleans LA. Launching with 5000 songs-in-a-row commercial-free, the move brings a competitor to iHeartMedia’s market leading “Q93” WQUE. The station is being operated via Time Brokerage Agreement with an option to purchase. The move marks Hegwood’s return to New Orleans nearly two decades after his On Top Communications Hip Hop “Hot 104.5” KNOU’s facilities were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 leading to the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in early 2006. After its temporary facilities were destroyed by Hurricane Gustav in 2008, the station was sold twice and finally resumed full operations as 1980s Hits “Z104.5” KWMZ-FM in 2013. The Time Brokerage Agreement on file with the FCC notes that Core Radio Group has also entered into an Option Agreement to purchase the station with the $10,000 per-month LMA fees going towards the acquisition should it be exercised. The company operates multiple Hip Hop stations under the “Streetz” brand including in Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, and Norfolk. All of the stations also carry the Atlanta based “Yung Joc and The Streetz Morning Takeover” distributed by Superadio Networks. Local Sports programming had come to an end on KLRZ at the end of August when the 12-3pm “Sports Hangover with Gus Kattengell” ended after a fourteen year run between Cumulus Media’s “106.1 The Ticket” WMTI and then KLRZ. Kattengell also served as studio host for pre-game, halftime, and post-game coverage of the NBA’s New Orleans Pelicans for the past five year. The Pelicans announced their move from KLRZ to Audacy News/Talk 870 WWL New Orleans/105.3 WWL-FM Kenner for the upcoming season in June. KLRZ carries ESPN Radio national programming plus the morning and afternoon shows from Guaranty Media’s Baton Rouge based ?104.5 ESPN? WNXX Jackson/104.9 KNXX Donaldsonville LA. more

WPYO as well as spending two stints at SummitMedia Hip Hop ?Hot 104.5? WKHT Knoxville TN first as night host from 2014 to 2018 before returning in November 2019 as MD/afternoon host and later rising to APD and then Program Director until moving to Detroit. Fremont shared, “They say all good things come to an end and that includes my time at the BOUNCE and in Detroit. My position with Beasley Media was eliminated and Thursday was my last day with the company. Over the last two years; we laughed, we cried, we celebrated and did a lot of really dope things. Shoutout to Shannon Renee for being a star, welcoming me (when the first day we met was my first day on the job) and helping make my job easy everyday by being such a pro! Doing a Morning Show was never a goal of mine, but I?m glad I had the opportunity to do it in this city with Shannon as my partner in crime. I never would?ve thought I?d go from doing Afternoon?s in Knoxville to mornings in Detroit, but it happened and still blows my mind. Shoutout to the amazing city of Detroit for embracing me, tuning in to the show, and positive feedback. Thank you to all of my co-workers for embracing me and helping making me better in every aspect of my job. I got to do a lot of really things (I never thought were in the cards for me) and connected with a lot of dope people, who I?ll never forget. I?ll be around most of the month, but I?m excited to spend more time with my family in Florida while I figure out what?s next. With how 2024 has played out, it?s needed, for sure. From Radio Insight: New Century Broadcasting Classic Country 1340 KAND/104.9 K285HC Corsicana TX ceased operations on October 31. Owner Diane Raymond told the Corsicana Daily-Sun that she was heartbroken over the closure, which she cited revenue issues, personal hardships, and lack of local staff to run it. She also stated that plans have yet to be determined whether to resurrect the station in the future. KAND signed-on in 1937 and had been owned by Raymond’s New Century Broadcasting since 2010 after previous ownership intended to shut it down at the end of 2007. It carried Corsicana High School and Navarro College football, but had discontinued its local “Talk Time” show earlier this year. more

From Radio Insight: After two days of stunting, Cumulus Media flipped the former Hip Hop “Hot 106” WWKX Woonsocket/Providence RI to Classic Rock “106.3 The Wolf” at midnight. The change brings a matching playlist, with “102.3 The Wolf” WMOS Stonington CT, which covers the southeastern corner of Connecticut and southwestern Rhode Island and had been run out of studios at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville CT. With a new logo to match WWKX, WMOS’s schedule continues to list Mike English in mornings and Westwood One’s Steve Gorman Rocks at night, however the remainder of the local airstaff including New London CT cluster News Director/midday host Jody Morris and Program Director/afternoon host Patrick Cole are no longer listed. The new format positions WWKX against iHeartMedia Rock 94.1 WHJY, which ranked fourth in the Providence market with a 7.4 share in the October Nielsen Audio ratings, but has led the market as recently as July. This story will be updated as more information is available. more

A native of Detroit, Tracey has been a staple of the Miami market since the early 1990s where she spent the majority of her career at the Cox Media Group cluster until being part of the company’s June layoffs. Tracey began her career in publicity and as a South Beach gossip columnist, which would bring her to R&B 1490 WMBM. She would spend eight months co-hosting mornings at WHQT in 1997-98 followed by a six year run at Hip Hop “99 Jamz” WEDR from 98-2004. After some time in Los Angeles where she appeared on the reality show “Starting Over” and worked at Jazz 88.1 KKJZ, she returned to Miami in 2006 running her own content company that produced audio and video features including “Love, Life and the 411″ for WHQT. That would lead to her return to the station in 2014 as News Director where she hosted the local inserts on the Tom Joyner and Rickey Smiley morning shows and hosted the Sunday night ?Hot Talk with Jill Tracey” community affairs show. A former president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) South Florida chapter, she was in a campaign for a seat on the Hollywood FL City Commission serving the city’s District 2. Cox Media Group released the following statement: It is with heavy hearts that we remember Jill Tracey, a remarkable voice in Miami radio and a beloved figure at HOT 105 FM. South Florida has lost a true radio icon and community voice. For years, Jill Tracey graced the airwaves with her dynamic personality, insightful commentary, and passion for serving her community. Known not only for her work as a radio host but also as a community leader. Jill?s impact extended far beyond the studio walls. Jill Tracey began her career as a South Beach columnist, crafting stories that spoke to the heart of Miami?s vibrant, diverse culture and community. Her love and passion for storytelling led her to HOT 105, where she became a staple on the station?s popular HOT Talk segment. In her role, Jill wasn?t just a host?she was a trusted friend, mentor, and voice for the voiceless. She addressed topics that mattered, often shedding light on issues affecting the African-American community and creating a space for open, honest, and sometimes difficult conversations. Beyond her radio presence, Jill was active in local community organizations, frequently attending charity events, fundraisers, and panel discussions that supported underrepresented voices and promoted positive change. Her advocacy, especially on topics such as racial equality, social justice, and mental health, resonated deeply with her listeners and the larger community. She was also deeply involved in the Miami arts and media scene, where she was a mentor and friend to countless aspiring broadcasters and journalists. Her dedication to highlighting Black culture and her commitment to representation within the media were cornerstones of her work. Jill?s dedication was not just to entertainment but to making a meaningful difference in people?s lives. Jill Tracey?s passing is a profound loss for Miami and the many listeners who tuned in to her show each day. Her voice, her laughter, and her wisdom will be missed, but her legacy will live on in the countless lives she touched. HOT 105 and the Miami community have lost a true trailblazer?a woman of grace, insight, unapologetic authenticity, and undeniable talent. Rest in peace, Jill Tracey; your impact will be felt for generations to come. Her family added: It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jill Tracey on November 1, 2024. A former personality at Hot 105 and a dedicated candidate for the District 2 Hollywood City Commission, Jill?s vibrant spirit and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Jill?s remarkable career included serving as News Director at HOT 105, where she not only showcased her exceptional talent but also inspired countless others in the industry. As past president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) South Florida chapter, she championed diversity and excellence in journalism, leaving a lasting impact on the community she loved. Her commitment to public service was evident in her recent candidacy, where she sought to make a difference in the lives of her fellow residents. Despite facing health challenges in recent times, Jill?s resilience and determination never wavered. Jill Tracey was more than a colleague; she was a beloved member of the South Florida community, known for her warmth, humor, and unwavering support for others. Her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those she touched throughout her life. As we remember Jill, we celebrate her contributions, her spirit, and the laughter she brought into our lives. She will always hold a special place in our hearts. Funeral arrangements will be announced soon. From Radio Insight: The holiday season has begun en masse across the country with a larger number of stations than in the past using the start of November to make their seasonal music shift. While most of the stations are ones that make the move to Christmas music every year, there are a handful of newcomers this year. Pillar of Fire’s new Christian AC “Star 101.5” KSRC Denver joined sister “Star 93.3” WAKW Cincinnati in being one of the early converts. Northpine reports that 99.1 KQYZ Emerado ND completed its move into the Grand Forks ND market and frequency switch earlier this week to introduce itself to the market as “Christmas 98.5“. After not going all-Christmas in 2023, iHeartMedia’s “Movin 107.7” WMOV-FM Norfolk VA returned to holiday music this year. Two markets have already reached two all-Christmas stations as both Alpha Media Soft AC “102.3 The Rose” WXMA and SummitMedia AC “Mix 106.9” WVEZ have gone in Louisville, while both Mid-West Family AC “Magic 98” WMGN and Audacy Hot AC “Mix 105.1” WMHX made the move in Madison. Among the other stations to make the move (and this is not a complete list) are iHeartMedia’s WLIT Chicago, KBEB Sacramento, 107.3 K297AK Fort Collins CO, WSRW-FM Grand Rapids MI, WMAG Greensboro NC, WMXL Lexington KY, and KMXG Quad Cities. Townsquare Media launched on WTSS Buffalo and W248BO Tuscaloosa AL. Other stations include Alpha Media’s KLMS Lincoln NE, Pamal’s WHUD Peekskill and WYJB Albany NY, SummitMedia’s KSRZ Omaha, Horizon Broadcast Group’s KWPK-FM Bend OR, PMB Broadcasting’s WLTC Columbus GA, Bryan Broadcasting’s KAGC College Station TX, Digio Strategies WJKK Jackson MS, and Forever Media’s WPPY York PA. more

From Radio Insight: Audacy Hot AC “99.1 The Mix” WMYX Milwaukee News Director and afternoon host Tim Lethlean is departing the station following his show today. Lethlean previously worked at WMYX as a weekend/fill-in host from 2004 to 2007 before spending six years at News/Talk 620 WTMJ as a news anchor and fill-in host. He would return to WMYX in 2013 as News Director, while spending time in nights, middays, and since 2020 afternoons. He also has spent time at CHR “103.7 Kiss-FM” WXSS and Hot AC 94.5 WKTI Milwaukee, News/Talk 1310 WIBA and CHR “Z104” WZEE Madison, and CHR 95.5 WIFC Wausau WI. Lethlean told RadioInsight, “I’m looking forward to a little time away from the mic; plus some extra family time. I may be guilty of missing out on a few too many kids’ volleyball tournaments and dance competitions. I have some catching up to do!” On Facebook he wrote, “A quickie Tim update: I’m taking a break from Milwaukee radio. Friday will be my last day on-air at 99.1 WMYX. This is totally my decision. I’ve done two jobs, IT and radio, for 22 years now; and I have two kids in high school who will be out on their own soon. I don’t want to miss out on chances to make memories with my family. The Audacy crew is amazing and ridiculously supportive. I’ve made so many friends along my radio journey whom I can’t say enough positive about. I’ll still have my toes in broadcasting with my role on the Wisconsin State Emergency Communications Committee. I won’t say I’m done on-air either, but its time for a breather for a bit. Thank you for listening and supporting me along the way! I’m blessed to have enjoyed such a great run across the radio dial.” Tim Lethlean ? Tim announces November 1st is last day on WMYX more

From Radio Insight: iHeartMedia has flipped CHR “Now 96.1” KXXM San Antonio to its rapidly growing Bilingual AC format. The station relaunched as “Mix 96.1” positioning as “Tus Favoritas de Siempre” at noon today and is launching with 50000 songs commercial free. Core artists will include Whitney Houston, Marc Anthony, Madonna, Lionel Richie, Shakira, Michael Jackson, and Celine Dion. This marks the first time the format has been attempted in a cluster that already has a traditional AC as iHeart has “Q101.9” KQXT. It marks the return of the “Mix” brand to the frequency as it was used by the station under its CHR format from its launch in 1998 until rebranding as “Now” in 2017. It also leaves San Antonio without a Mainstream CHR station with Cox Media Group Hot AC “Hits 105.3” KSMG closest to filling the hole. ?We?re thrilled to introduce Mix 96.1 to San Antonio, a station that celebrates the vibrant Latino community with the best music from the ?80s and ?90s, in both English and Spanish,? said PJ Gonzalez, Senior Vice President, iHeartLatino. ?Mix 96.1 will bring together the timeless hits our listeners love, creating a unique listening experience that resonates with our bilingual audience and reflects the rich culture of San Antonio.? Market President Rosie Perez said, “We are thrilled to announce the launch of Mix 96.1, Tus Favoritas De Siempre. This new format will unite and celebrate the vibrant energy of San Antonio’s Hispanic community.” ?I?m excited to bring Mix 96.1 to life. This station blends the best of 80s and 90s English hits with timeless Spanish AC favorites, creating a nostalgic yet fresh listening experience. With Mix 96.1 joining 104.5 Latino Hits and La Preciosa 105.7, iHeart San Antonio is positioned as a powerhouse in Hispanic radio and we?re dedicated to offering brands that speak to this community,? said*Pedro Escalera, Director of Programming and Brand Strategy for iHeartLatino. KXXM registered a 2.6 share in the just released October Nielsen Audio ratings trailing KSMG’s 4.5 share. KQXT was fifth with a 5.4 share. more

The translator is now utilizing its “The Touch” R&B network that features a lineup of Big Ant in mornings, Toni Terrell in middays, Kenny Smoov in afternoons, Tasha Simone at night, and Miss Moka overnights. The Classic Hip Hop and Lite AC formats are no longer listed on Westwood One’s list of formats. From Radio Insight: As part of the multi-frequency programming shift that took place today, Educational Media Foundation has introduced its Christian AC “K-Love” network into Columbus OH. Southeastern Ohio Broadcasting Company’s 102.5 WWLG Baltimore OH switched to EMF’s programming at midnight under new WKVR call letters upon the completion of the station’s LMA to Radio One. The move places WWLG up against River Radio Ministries’ “104.9 The River” WCVO Gahana and its growing statewide network. The launch of “K-Love” completes a four signal shuffle created by Radio One’s new partnership with La Mega Media. In addition to 102.5, the changes today saw Spanish Variety “Mega 103.1” WVKO-FM Johnstown change call letters to WWLA and begin simulcasting on 107.1 WJYD (to become WWLG) with WJYD’s former Gospel “Joy 107.1” programming move to 106.3 WHTD London replacing a simulcast of Hip Hop “Power 107.5” WCKX Columbus. more
