From Radio Insight: The Texas Radio Hall of Fame (TRHOF) has released the names of the fifty (50) nominees for its 2024 Induction Class. The voting portal will be open and accessible to voting members via TRHOF.net through midnight on Monday, August 5th. ?We?ve been continually working to refine, streamline, and demystify the nomination and voting process? observes TRHOF Executive Director Doug Harris, ?and each year we continue to make major steps forward. Once again, we have a group of outstanding broadcasters for our voting members to consider with a balloting platform that includes their photos and biographical information for review.? Over two hundred broadcast professionals with ties to Texas radio were nominated for consideration by the TRHOF Review Committee, which reached a consensus on the final fifty. Voting members of the TRHOF will now determine the twenty individuals who will be honored in the TRHOF?s Annual Induction Ceremony at the Texas Museum of Broadcasting and Communications in Kilgore, TX. ?We are very pleased with this slate of nominees, which spotlights the depth and breadth of Texas radio talent,? says Harris. ?From the tower to the boardroom to the conference room, this list of nominees touches the geographic boundaries of the state and connects to a variety of markets, formats and virtually every position of service in the broadcast world.? Those selected for the 2024 Induction Class will be honored during the organization?s Annual Induction and Reunion Weekend, November 1-2, 2024, at the Texas Museum of Broadcasting and Communications in Kilgore, Texas. Information on becoming a TRHOF voting member is available on the organization?s website and interested parties may still join?and vote?in this year?s selection. From Radio Insight: Roberts Metro Broadcasting Adult R&B “Foxy 106.9” K295CQ St. Louis/KXBS-HD3 Bethalto IL is mourning the loss of morning co-host and longtime St. Louis personality Tammie Holland after a long bout with colon cancer at the age of 53. Holland joined K295CQ upon its launch last December. She had begun her career in the mid 90’s as an intern and weekend host at “Majic 108” KMJM and would spend time at KDHX, KSDK-TV and Roberts’ WRBU-TV before rejoining then “Magic 104.9” KMJM in 2004 as morning co-host spending a decade alongside Tony Scott through the station’s 2012 move to 100.3 and flip to Classic Hip Hop “100.3 The Beat” in 2014. She then moved to middays in 2016 upon the station’s flip to Hip Hop until exiting in 2020. The station shared, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tammie Holland, the beloved co-host of the Real Breakfast Crew on Foxy 106.9. Tammie was a kind, charming, and infectious presence who brought joy to countless listeners. Her signature laugh will be remembered forever. As a media veteran, she touched many lives through her work in radio, TV, acting, and podcasting. Our deepest condolences go out to Tammie’s loved ones. May she rest in peace and continue to inspire us all.” It will dedicate its programming on Monday, July 22 from 8am to 5pm in Holland’s memory playing inspirational songs, memories, and messages from past and present influential people in her life. The station also invites others to share heir favorite memories and stories about Tammie by calling (314) 944-1069 or posting on their Facebook or Instagram page @Foxy1069FM. Program Director Don ‘DJ Wrekk 1’ Williams commented, “We are devastated to lose our dear friend and colleague. Tammie was more than just a talented broadcaster ? she was a kind, compassionate, and generous soul who touched countless lives through her work. In addition to the on-air tribute, we will be working closely with Tammie’s family to provide support during this difficult time. As we remember Tammie’s life and legacy, we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to live on through the countless lives she touched and the memories she created.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Taylor J-radio (@taylorjradio) View this post on Instagram A post shared by Curt Copeland (@mrcurtcopeland) more

From Radio Insight: First On RadioInsight: iHeartMedia is combining all of its product and engineering teams responsible for building and maintaining ad tech and audio solutions including RCS, Triton Digital, and their internal Sound+, in the new Heart Ad Platforms and Technology Solutions Group. Joe Robinson, President of Corporate Development & Ventures for iHeartMedia, will head the new group. The move will see services such as Spreaker fall under the Triton umbrella along with recent acquisition Sounder, while services focused more on music scheduling and playout will be folded into RCS including the company’s internal Sound+ cloud automation system and their Music Labs and AI Music scheduling tools. The heads of those teams, Chip Jellison and Antonio Carbajal will return to RCS as well. Jellison, who served as Chief Technology Officer for RCS from 2006 until 2020, will regain that title adding oversight of development of all RCS products including Media Monitors and Mediabase. In a memo to staffers earlier this week shared with RadioInsight, RCS President/CEO Philippe Generali commented, “For iHeart, this will help the company build innovative products that are competitive in the audio space, and further solidify its leadership role in audio ad tech. For RCS and its divisions, we will work more closely with Triton where we are not already actively doing so.” He added, “This combined development and engineering will reinforce our worldwide technology leadership, prevent product obsolescence issues and allow for the development of more products and services.” more

From Radio Insight: By the end of August, Corus Entertainment intends to have cut at least 25% of its workforce from what it had at the start of the 2023 fiscal year. Corus, which reported a third quarter loss of $769.9 million Canadian with revenue down to $331.8 million from $397.3 million in Q3 2023. The company reported radio revenues down 9.9 percent year-over-year to $23.6 million, while its television revenue saw a massive 17 percent drop from $371.2 million to $308.2 million. With 500 cuts made earlier this year across the company, it now intends to cut 300 more positions by the end of August. And those cuts started today in Kingston ON where the company eliminated all local radio on-air positions on Classic Hits “Big 96.3” CFMK-FM and Hot AC “104.3 Fresh Radio” CKWS-FM. Among the talent exiting are cluster Promotions Director and CKWS-FM morning host Monica Lapajne & co-host Jesse Reynolds, 104.3 afternoon host Carrie ‘Care’ Humphries, CFMK morning host Ryan ‘Sideshow’ Lemmon, midday host Bill Welcyhka, and afternoon host Derek Bolduc. The company cut CFMK-FM/CKWS-FM Program Director Bob Willette in the earlier round of cuts. In a statement shared to the Kingston Whig-Standard, a Corus spokesperson commented, ?On the audio side, BIG 96.3 and Fresh 104.3 will remain in Kingston, and the stations will utilize voice tracking to continue to produce local content made for and reflecting Kingston. In the news division, we have reimagined our broadcast schedule in Kingston, Peterborough, and Kelowna with a focus on supper hour and late-night news programming. Additionally, our local online team will now operate under a new model to better support local breaking news.” During the Corus earnings call on Monday, co-CEO John Gossling said, “We’re making tough decisions to shutter areas of the business we can no longer sustain and pause longer term development activities while we implement efficiency initiatives.” Co-CEO Troy Reeb added that the company would “redouble our efforts to reduce legacy costs, not just in news, but in all areas of the business.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Jesse Reynolds (@ifyouseekjesse) more

From Radio Insight: First on RadioInsight: iHeartMedia is conducting a double-flip in the Tampa Bay area on Thursday, July 18. Spanish CHR “Rumba 106.5/102.9” WRUB Sarasota/W275AZ Tampa will move to the full-market signal of 95.7 WBTP Clearwater, while Hip Hop “95.7 The Beat” will move in reverse to 106.5 and 102.9 and flip to Classic Hip Hop positioned as “The Suncoast’s Throwback Station”. WBTP began stunting at 3pm with non-stop Bad Bunny as both stations are running sweepers between songs promoting the moves. WBTP has been struggling since Cox Media Group’s launch of Adult R&B “101.5 The Vibe” last September hovering in the mid 1’s shares. Due to lack of a signal in the northern parts of the market, WRUB currently holds a 0.8 share in the Tampa/St. Petersburg market. The move will leave Beasley Media Rhythmic CHR “Wild 94.1” WLLD as the only current based Hip Hop station in the market. The move of “Rumba” to 95.7 will give the brand additional coverage as it goes from the worst signal of the three Spanish CHRs in the market to the best with its 100kW/185m Class C1 signal covering more of the market than Beasley’s “92.5 Maxima” WYUU Safety Harbor’s Class C2 signal and Spanish Broadcasting Systems’ “El Zol 97.1” WSUN Holiday’s Class A signal. WYUU currently has a 1.9 share, while WSUN is at a 1.1 share. more
